Frequently asked Questions:
We have tried to cover all areas on the web but there are still some questions that people ask us. Here We have put the most frequently asked questions we have had. If there are any more please either ring us on 07850 736384 or e-mail us at info@a1motorcycletraining.co.uk
- Q - What do I need to bring on my when I take my CBT?
- A - there are a few things you need to bring:
- Your Driving licence - If you have the new photo card licence you need to bring both parts, that is, the credit card licence with your picture on it and the A4 counterpart that comes with it. If you do not bring both parts you will not be allowed to complete the course. If you have the old paper licence, you will need to bring photo ID to take the CBT, a passport is ideal.
- Bring clothes suitable for riding - don’t turn up in shorts and a t-shirt, even if it’s a hot day. Also avoid wearing trainers or soft shoes. A decent jacket, boots, gloves and jeans are the minimum. We do have equipment available to borrow but these are limited so check when you book for availability.
- If you bring your own Helmet, make sure it’s in good condition. It should be free from any visible damage and have a secure fastener. If it's a poor quality we won’t let you ride with it but we do have helmets you can borrow.
- A packed lunch or some money to get some.
- And remember it is a long day - So try to get a good night sleep the night before.

- Q - If I take my test on a 125 cc Motorcycle, I have a restriction of up to 33BHP for two years. What bike could I get with this restriction?
- A - Well most modern motorcycles can be restricted down to 33BHP. For example, you could buy Yamaha R6, have it restricted, ride it for two years and then have it unrestricted.
- Q - So what does the restriction do?
- A - nothing to the looks of the bike, it will look the same It basically reduces the power output and reduces acceleration and top end. More smooth than brute power. This however depends on the bike as the heavier the bike the more the effect is. However, even with the restrictor fitted the bikes pull well and can reach speeds of 90+.
- Q - So if I take my test on a 125 cc bike, after the two years what do I do?
- A - Well you don’t have to do anything. You can then ride any bike you want ( with insurance) or if you have a restrictor kit fitted you can get it taken off (again, tell your insurance company).
- Q - How long will it take to pass my test?
- A - To be honest, how long is a piece of string. This really depends on how well you progress and previous experience. However, we do pride ourselves on our training and so when we get you to your tests, we have good results.
- Q - Do I have to have ridden before to go for my test?
- A - No, in fact most students have never ridden before they come to us.
- Q - I have difficulty getting time off, can you still train me?
- A - Yes, here at A1 we understand the problems people can have in getting free for training and so we do try to be a flexible as possible. However, we are tied when it comes to tests as they are out of our control.
